I guess you got a good lessson that life is cheap, esp. women. Kill your wife, that's your business. (referring to that attitude of the police and authorities, not you).

Interesting that the mission president put you and the mission above justice. It would have burned me up to see that guy go free. Too much. I'm not ure what I would have done, but I can't imagine a scenario where I'd have been ok with the guy getting off.

It's the spiritual equivalent of real politik.

Well, it was an experience, that is for sure. It might have been extreme but it taught me the importance of the WoW.

As far as not being able to testify or make a statement, knowing the legal system down there, it isn't exactly like an American democracy. I wouldn't have been able to leave the area until the trial was over, possibly if it extended past my mission time.

With those others who were witnesses, I don't think that our testimony would have made much of a difference. It was frustrating. I had a hard time getting over not being able to go and kick the shit out of him the first time that it happened. Granted, I may still be in Chile serving out a jail sentence.

It was frustrating and I'll admit, at times I still struggle with what happened a bit wishing I could have done more.

1. Riding a bus next to an Elder for eight hours who had been molested by his companion trying to figure out what to say, and finally encouraging him to watch the soft porn playing on the bus. (every mission has the ethernet bunny story, I have a very real similar experience minus the ether)

2. Having my MP tell me that my comp had the ok to masterbate as long as he either called him, or held a BOM in his non-use hand.

3. Getting in two fist fights with the same companion, and being told the next time, by my MP, that I needed to finish the deal and knock 'the son of a bitch' out.

4. Seeing murdered people chilling in the street.

That reminds me, I had an institute teacher who told us of when he was mission president, he had an elder and a sister whose patriarchal blessings both said they had already chosen their eternal companions, and when they meet, it will be revealed to them.

At a zone conference, the elder and sister laid eyes on each other for the first time, and knew. They went out into the hallway, introduced themselves, and began planning their wedding.

The girls in class were all aghast, and asked if it has been a model marriage or what. My teacher said no, they have have struggled from day one and it has nothing to do with the 7 kids.
