Things you might miss out on in home school

I'd add a few others to the list:

1) Dances. We had school dances starting in 7th grade so I had the deacon shuffle mastered by the time I turned 14 and went to church dances. Plus, you can't recreate the anxiety of asking a girl to dance in the home school setting. Realizing that the hottest girl in school is out of your league when she laughs after you ask her to dance is a public school rite of passage.

2) Exposure to the caste system that only public school can provide. By the time you leave there are no surprises about how the world sees you.

3) Daily interaction with the people of the opposite sex who are not your mother or your sister.

4) Smear the queer. Though I'm sure it has a different name now, it's a public school tradition.

There's also the 'coming of age' moment where you and your buddies determine to lose your virginity before graduation. You make numerous attempts to score with the girl you have liked since Jr. High and hijinks ensue. Right before graduation, around the prom, you end up with your girl, your buddy scores with your other buddies mom, and the macho guy ends up with the girl from drama class who makes him see life in a different light.

It is merit based so it is not a goal to socially manipulate the Corps so that we could all celebrate diversity.....weeeeeee! Crazy idea to believe having the most qualified officers benefits the country better than one with equal exposure to Chicanos, Jews, Muslims, Blacks, Orientals, Occidentals, Arabs, Vietnamese, Congolese, Chinese, Japanese, Protestants, 1st Baptists, 2nd Baptists, 3rd Baptists, Sunnis, Shiites, French, Belgians, Italian-Italian, Italian-Americans, American-Italians or American-Americans -whew apologies to anyone I left out. Finally, I would like to apologize to the Nataional Association for the Advancement of COLORED people for referring to their members as "colored."- Truth I stole the final line from Steve Martin.

In honesty the Army has, or at least had, one simple rule concerning minority promotions. The same rule was applied to West Point admissions. The rule was that if 10% of those applying for promotions were a specific minority and if 10% of those promoted were not of the same ethnic minority the commanding officer of the promotion board had to draft an explanation for the results.

However, the only homosexuals were the softball players (ain't that one surprising) and I only knew one democrat the entire time I was there- he was a lapsed Jew recruited to wrestle. I actually liked the democrat as we shared similar disdain for Our Rockbound Highland Home.

I have read that the army has always been well ahead of the rest of the country in this area. For example, blacks had full access to facilities and benefits long before that was so in civilian America.

Actually I believe that having peers from very different social strata is important. You miss something if you go to a school that only has the kids of SUs in it.

GN disagrees however. He wants everyone in the school to be Idaho trailer trash.

Could you see your typical pussy lawyer telling a man with an issued firearm that cannot get a power of attorney?

The tough things the military does broke down many racial barriers and opened many eyes.

That said CDT Henry O. Flipper wasn't treated so well in the late 1800s, but he graduated and that was important, IMO.

Now how we at West Point treated our womenfolk, well lets just say we would think the mormon church is a bunch of liberal pussies!

Amen, SE Idaho trailer parks are a bastion of diverstity. In addition to jack mormons and antimormons (AKA "The Second Ward" in many smaller locales) much of our trailer trash here in Idaho come from our imported hydrotubular moving specialist and sugarbeet field quality control engineers. They are mostly Catholic, so we love them when we show up and say "owe-LA..we have a book about your ancestors..." It is great as it gives Elder Ricks a chance to use the spanish skills he developed on his mission.
