The "old days" is a myth. The show has survived so long because it constantly adapts and launches a lot of huge talent.

Truthfully, looking back, Chevy Chase stumbling around as a drunken Gerald Ford was funny then.....it wouldnt be funny now....too Keystone Kop.

Also, back then, they rarely made an effort to actually look like the people they portrayed. They simply declared that they were a certain public figure and starting talking.

The show is much better these days in many aspects and there are just as many classic sketches in the modern era than there were in the old days.

The gems from the early episodes are great, though. And it is cool to see some of the music guests back in their infancy.
Wasn't Steve Martin on the original a lot?

Didn't he do the Egyptian thing on SNL?

Is it still on at midnight?
