I guess it all depends which polls one picks and chooses to read. In the one's I'm looking at, McCain is within the margin of error in some of those R's typically lose (such as PA), and ahead in others.

McCain will likely someday become the issue again, but right now McCain is not Obama's problem. His top two problems at the moment are:

1. His own mouth
2. Palin

Obama was not referring to Palin, and he followed the pig comment with the stinky fish comment. Now, women are often referred to as stinky fish, but it's clear that Obama was using a well-worn saying that McCain has employed in this campaign. It was perhaps not smart to use the saying, but it was not aimed at Palin, and I think the McCain camp is unwise to use it against him. It will turn off many independents as ugly and opportunistic politicking.

I was calling you out as the sexist pig (sans lipstick) that you are, my friend. Your faux concern for "women" is touching, yet your culture convicts you. SU can help you out with this.

Obama should have been smarter than to use "lipstick on a pig" after Palin made "lipstick" her word at the convention. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I think the crowd reaction brought on an epiphany, hence the stinky fish analogy. He was backpeddling by then.

Wasn't it just a few days ago that Obama was touting his running of his own campaign as evidence of his being prepared to be president? This past week is convincing proof that he isn't up to the job. Now he's running out of money and appealing to the 527s to take up the slack.

Obama may well become the president. But by then, we'll all be well aware that he is nothing more than an empty suit. Harry Reed and Nancy Pelosi can't wait.

Why do you think the audience laughed a lot harder at the "pig" joke than they did the "stinky fish" joke. Perhaps they caught on better than you??

I'm not sexist. One of my best friends is female.

Exactly. They made the connection immediately.

Of course they made the connection, but that does not mean that Obama intended for them to make the connection. He knew it was a dumb thing to say, and I agree that's why he threw on the stinky fish comment. But not in a million years did Obama intentionally make an implicit dig at Palin as a pig. McCain is idiotic to play this card, and his new ad is disgusting politics. This will backfire against McCain. Does he want to win votes? He should have come out and said, "I know Obama did not intend to call my runningmate a pig. End of story." This approach would have worked wonderfully well: It's honest, magnanimous, and it shines a light on the Obama comment, which was dumb.
