Default Double Rainbow guy

So I first heard of this guy on sports radio (1310) last week. They interviewed him.

So this guy posted a video of a double rainbow about 6 months ago, in or around Yosemite Park. Then recently Jimmy Kimmel showed the youtube video on his TV show, and the whole thing has blown up.

Then these nerds made an auto-tune song based on the original video.

Yes, the thing is comical. Esp. since the guy was likely stoned when he recorded the video (on the radio interview he mentioned that he has a prescription for week).

But what is this saying about our culture? Are we not so full of irony and cynicism that such a rapturous reaction to a simple phenomenon is bewildering?

Aren't we supposed to reserve such reactions for things like the latest Lady Gaga show? Or the newest 3D movie?

But a lousy stinking rainbow?

How do we amuse ourselves? What has meaning ("what does this mean")? What makes us feel deeply?

It has never been more difficult to lift the soul than in 2010.

In this interview, he denies any drug use or sexual acts while viewing and recording the rainbow.
