The Dark Knight: $314 million in 10 days
19 years ago, Batman became the first film to gross $100 million in only 10 days. The average ticket price then was $3.97, and today is $7.08. In today's dollars, that gross would be $178 million....well short of The Dark Knight.
The Dark Knight is projected to top $400 million in only 18 days, which took the current record-holder Shrek 2 43 days to accomplish. All-time moneymaker: Titanic, $601 million. ($909 million in today's movie dollars). All-time moneymaker when adjusted for inflation: Gone With The Wind, $1.431 billion. (Grossed $46.5 million, when ticket prices were 23 cents). http://www.boxofficemojo.com/ |

I guess that includes matinees, and theaters in Alabama. Folks take time out from lynchin' every now and then, to attend church and watch a non-Harry Potter film.

Dark Knight was on more screens than the original Batman, plus it had a midnight showing, which essentially gives it one extra day.
Still an amazing cume.

Reports from laker camp are that Bynum is 100% now and doing full workouts in Atlanta. He needs to produce if he wants to get his max deal, so I believe he will attempt to have a monster year. I do acknowledge that Smith is a more proven commodity, though, by far.

You don't do it simply because Bynum is potentially a top three center in the league someday and you don't trade a center for a wing, but Smith would be sick alongside Kobe. |
