Default BYU vs. SF

Nick Emery was on fire last night from the 3. The 2nd half was a raucous affair with BYU going down and scoring every time, followed by SF also scoring every time. Why does playing fast mean playing poor defense? No energy? Combination of poor defenders + no energy?

BYU almost certainly going to the NIT. It will be interesting to see how far they go. Historically BYU doesn't do that well in any kind of tourney (conference, NIT, NCAA).

BYU plays well if a team will let them run. Slow them down as Pacific did, and BYU is in trouble because it doesn't play smart. The defensive shifts and alignment is often very slow. I am a fan of BYU sports, but I am not a fan of the erratic play this team exhibits. Nick Emery is Carlino 2.0. He makes some great plays and some really bad plays. He made some shots he had not business taking.

Actually, the NIT is the postseason tourney BYU historically HAS played well in. They made the final 4 of the NIT the last time they went in 2013. They've won the whole thing twice (66 and 51). They have a pretty good overall record in the NIT. They don't play there very often which is fine with me because I want them to always go to the important tournament, but historically they've done alright when they have. Rose has only taken a team there twice. The other time was his first year and they did lose their first game. Cleveland made it to the round of 8 once and the round of 16 once. Ladell Andersen had a team that made the round of 8 and the round of 16.

BYU is #27 all time in winning percentage in the NIT. They're 15-9 in 24 games played. If you leave out the teams with fewer than 10 games played, they go up to #22.

1954: 0-1

I want as small of a sample size as possible, but wasn't that in 2006, one of only four first round exits with the other appearing after Danny Ainge and two before our births?
