I had a similar experience where I referred to a government building that seemed under constant repair to be black hole. People took exception to the term.

I also remember a diversity class where the instructor talked of being in Japan and seeing a whiskey called "Black Nikka" being sold. He thought that was notable.

Oddly, I never experienced such incidents in France.
