They lost to Baylor but defeated Penn State that year, back when Penn State was consistently good. They did not go to a bowl game though.

I remember hearing Gordon B. Hinkley announce at the start of General Priesthood meeting that BYU had defeated UCLA that day. I was sitting in that big hall at the MTC with all the other missionaries there.

Many actually cheered and chased the Spirit away. I just put my head back and went to sleep.
