Plaisted's talent has been wasted...
in several ways IMO. As you saw with the scouting on Trent by the aggies. Many were concerned with his outside shot. Why? Because the last time they saw him was in high school running down the court and playing his game facing the basket and driving for layups and dunks. They also saw a young man who was stroking it from 15+ feet out.
Suddenly Trent has to play the five in the college game where he is basically expected to do what Araujo did his senior year. Feed the beast, go to the hole and score roll ins. Play with your back to the rim and muscle your opponant to keep his feet moving to get the and one. Trent has done a capable job in this role, and he has had some outstanding games, but I have to wonder what it would be like if Trent had continued to play at the 4 spot and Miles was the guy underneath. Miles gets how to play the 5 spot. He understands how to move around to get close to the basket to shoot. He also understands how to move around to pivot, fake, reverse shift in order to get a two foot jumper vs. the skyhook from hell or the houdini twistaround while throwing up a prayer. By using Trents 4.6 40 speed and his in motion vertical, we are talking about a kid that could have developed a huge game above the rim. His free throw shooting would have been better since his game would have his facing the basket, taking 12 to 18 footers when guys were boxing out. He would have been a huge threat to cover man on as he could go from a pivot jump shot stance to driving on his man for the "and one". Trent seems to slow down incredibly when under the basket. Miles does not have the sprint speed Trent has (although he is not far behind), but when he gets the ball under the basket facing away, his game is much faster. This is why he is getting open looks two feet away vs. sky hooking it blindly at the basket. It is too bad IMO that Rose chose to form Trent into a dominant post playing 5 vs a bonafide power forward. |

You make it seem like Trent would have some basketball IQ if it hadn't been for Rose.
I don't buy it. |

What have you seen in the last 3 years that gives you any indication that TP has any sort of outside shot? When he has gotten the ball outside-12-18' range he has NEVER looked like he was going to shoot it. If he could shoot it don't you think he would attempt it every now and then? If he could shoot a 12-18' jumper don't you think Rose would look at that and think hey that would help open up the inside for him? Rose is a good coach, he isn't limiting TP, TP is limiting TP!

His scout profile from 2004 says:
Biography:Made a national name for himself at the 2003 Kingwood Classic when he excelled with the San Antonio Wildcats. Skilled big man is crafty around the basket. Also a few interesting things: 35 ACT 1170 SAT 3.9 GPA But no videos.

Crafty means, I think, that he is basically a far better athlete than anyone else on the court and 5 inches taller. In other words, what he has demonstrated at BYU.

Isn't Plaistead the one Majerus (rightly wrongly) decided, a long time ago, he didn't want, saying something like he was a basketball imbecile?
