I don't get "Satan."
Can we agree that Satan would score pretty darn high on an IQ test? But he's the last one to know, apparently, that he's fighting an all-out war against God that he can't possibly win. In fact, the whole contest is rigged. Satan's purpose is just to create a kind of haze that tests humans' worthiness for admission to heaven; someday the jig will be up, and Satan's inevitable downfall and banishment, even destruction, will occur. What gives? Why doesn't Satan sue for peace, cop a plea? What explains this fatal blind spot? Why is he of all people so clueless about the hopelessness of his cause?

I see his blindness in people and children.
Sometimes my son, a very intelligent boy, will kick agains the pricks as it were, even though he knows it will result in his inevitable punishment. In many respects, the terroist leaders of Islam act that way. Yes it's intellectually befuddling, but perhaps he is so conceited, he thinks he can somehow devise or manufacture a win from the jaws of victory, or that God really doesn't mean it. Satan is real, of that I have no doubt.

Scorched earth policy. Maybe he knows he's going down, but is determined to take as many people down with him as he can. Or maybe he just isn't that bright and people give him too much credit. Maybe people do bad things because it's their nature and not because Satan is standing on their shoulder, whispering in their ear. Myself, I favor the latter explanation.

22. And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance. |

I feel that Satan knows he is not going to win, but is so bitter and self-absorbed that he simply does not care. Instead of giving up, sitting in a corner and sulking, he is going down swinging. His goal is to fool as many people as possible into sharing his eternal misery.

He wouldn't turn the gun on himself, but throw the gun down and yell, you can't kill me, we're in Massachusetts with no death penalty.
And then he'd write twisted children's books.
