OK, my curiosity has gotten the best of me: who is the woman posing for your avatar?

Well Joseph liked to refer to ancient Egyptian symbols for some reason. I guess it's kinda an esoteric trip to refer to classic symbols known only to Egyptologists, as opposed to the mundane commonplace symbols of the Nicene Creedists. I'd rather be a snobby elitist, drinking fine champagne than drinking Coor's Lite Beer farting with the unemployed.

It's his second wife to be. Ain't she a hottie? You should meet her in person, but Adam only introduces her to his friends.

We use symbols. Angel Moroni on the temple is a symbol. CTR ring's a symbol. Obviously there are temple and garment symbols. We are a church that uses a lot of symbols. I don't buy this argument against the cross.

What outward symbol do you wear?

Garments are hidden.

The temple has one of course.

Wedding ring for one.

So we say, we put symbols on our temples (angel Moroni, sunstone, etc), we put symbols on our churches (steeples), we use symbols as a sacrament, we use symbols in the temple as signs and tokens, we put symbols on the garments we wear everyday, we use symbols in our popular culture with CTR rings and such, we discuss the importance of symbols frequently over the pulpit, but yet we condemn the cross just because it's a symbol and outward symbols are an incorrect tradition? Sorry, not buying it.

Don't buy it.

I believe we reject it, because we wish to be different and because to some extent, many make a mockery of the cross by making it garish and gaudy.

So to distance ourselves from a misused external symbol.

Our worship is full of intangible symbols, but we do not have many "objects" of symbols. We have "process" symbols but not commonplace "objects".

It is good not to be too ecumenical. I don't wish to be like the rest in this regard.

This I buy. We want to be different. But no logic as to why we want to be different in this regard makes sense to me.

Let me clarify that I am not so much offended by the symbol of the cross, mostly perturbed that one was given out to every kindergarten at my son's public school. If some kid on the playground said to my son, "be my friend, here's a cross necklace," I wouldn't care. But I would be just as bothered if the teachers were handing out WWJD bracelets or mini Qu'rans or The Watchtower or For the Strength for Youth pamphlets. They are all inappropriate gifts in a public school setting.
