Am I the only one who was never impressed with Brittney Spears? Perhaps it's because she is so much younger than I, but I've never found her to be anything but annoying.

We were living in Utah when Brittney first came onto the scene. I was out for a run and listening to X96 on my walkman. Some kid called in and requested Brittney Spears. The DJ said sure, I'll play that right now. Then he proceeded to put on some death metal song I had never heard of before. I had never heard a Brittney Spears song before either, so not catching the sarcasm, I assumed I was listening to Brittney Spears. It took me awhile to figure out that Brittney Spears was not another Marilyn Manson-type rocker.

Either way, I wasn't impressed.

I was on my mission when she came out, and I fell in love with her because, well, I was living amongst short, round-faced, brown people and she was what I perceived to be a peachy slice of heaven. She became a running joke between my companion and I, when I mailed myself a letter from Brittney Spears and had the office elders turn it around in the pouch and send it back the next week (we had a competition to see who could get pictures from the hottest chicks).

A friend of mine used to be hugely attracted to Brittney. Then she saw Brittney perform in an L.A. club and realized Brit was a horrible singer, a great lip-syncer, and an above-average dancer. She told me the fantasy died that night.

Yes, lucky me... I still remember the first I saw/heard Ms. Spears. I was a Sr. in High School, getting ready to go to a school "stomp". I remember thinking "Damn, that girl is hot!" since I was about her age... and being a teenager, of course hormones run wild.

I left on my mission to a "cute" and innocent "Sometimes" Brittney Spears and came back to "I'm A Slave 4 U" Brittney who was performing with Snakes around her neck and french kissing Madonna.
