it's due mostly to runaway CEO pay that's uncorrelated with performance. we're turning into a plutocracy.

You think the rich poor gap's increase is due to runaway CEO pay? Or do you mean that CEO pay represents the problem?

Rather than complain about tax burdens, everyone should demand from their representatives that they dump the income tax and replace it with a consumption tax instead. Being taxed on what we consume of the earth's resources rather than what we produce makes so much more sense.

The economy would tank with a consumption tax b/c consumer spending would plummet; getting all that income tax money back, and then realizing you get to keep it if you don't buy things? My spending habits would change drastically.
