I know how Obama can guarantee his victory

It came to me tonight during the debate how Obama can guarantee a victory (even though the race is already his to lose, but this is a guarnatee): promise to appoint a Justice like Justice O'Connor to the Supreme Court as his first appointee. Reagan promised to appoint a woman, and so can Obama. Even more, he'll get all the swing votes who get a little queasy at the thought of a liberal lion being put on the Court. He'll win them over with the promise to appoint a moderate. It will ensure his victory. Enrage the Left, sure, but the race will be his.

And then he'll appoint someone like Diane Wood from the 7th Circuit who is whipper-snapper smart, no-nonsense pragmatist, but who also, once on the Court, will be as liberal as any (except maybe on the criminal issues). He'll win all around.

I respectfully disagree. That is too general. Sure he'll get some swingers, but the whole lot of them aren't hinging on the judicial direction.

That's my point: a swinger is unpredictable and votes based on a complex array of positions. In fact, generally, no swing voter has the same array of issues that he cares about. But the Supreme Court is one that is cross-cutting. And it is the one way that Obama can say, "I'm a moderate," which is something swingers are concerned about: is he a liberal hardliner? There's no better way to telegraph moderateness than to say he'd appoint a Justice O'Connor. What's another issue for telegraphing that better?

And it will be that message that will guarantee him his victory.

Well, his sycophants already have the race cared to play for a loss, which is actually a good way to guarantee him a win. Nobody wants to be labeled a racist.

Awful idea. First of all, Obama is killing McCain on the economy. Why would he want to change the subject? And why would he want to change it an unpredictable subject like the Court?

LOL. What else could be seemingly good ideas I could plant in the Obama campaign but actually woudl be dumb?

Deny all the reports that Biden is a Botoxaholic? (Don't call attention to it!)

Come out strongly against Proposition 8? (Would take courage, which means the coasting steam train shouldn't chance it!)

Announce he'll put Republicans in his cabinet? (Would undermine his call to throw the bums out!)

Promise to work closely with Congress, namely Pelosi and Ried? (Oh sh*#! Don't remind America of the coming Democratic Triumvirate!)

Basically, all he has to do is stay calm and talk smoothly.
