Here's a theological position that seems tenable to me
regarding gays and singles.
Make the treatment similar. If a gay messes up, treat them like you do straight adults, disfellowshipping, but trying to work with them, knowing ex'ed never return. Now if they become militant, you show them the door, like you do anybody else. We do that now with singles and marrieds who slip up. It will happen. And like my wife says, the disfellowshipped gig is not so bad. You can't pray or serve but your bishop pays special attention to your needs. You can still attend functions and enjoy the Spirit. Again I do not know what bishops do regarding gays. Not being a bishop I won't know.

I agree. I think that's pretty much what we see today from the church. Do others disagree? |

in public for congregations. You know to what I refer.
In other words, you receive many of the blessings but none of the burdens of membership.

I have always wondered at that expression and how often we here it. I think it must be a vestige of the earlier Utah saints being an agricultural society that lived and died by rainfall and weather conditions. People just liked the sound of it and it lingers. I wonder how many other expressions that we commonly hear have a source that is not immediately apparent. I'm trying to think of others.
