Default "Mormonism, Romney, and Race"

Nothing new here, but it's intersting to read it in NRO...

I don't post the link in hopes of yet another thread on the subject, but as an example of the political conversation that will occur if Romney gets the nomination.

Too bad I'm not running for president.

When asked if it was wrong I would stand up and shout "Hell yes, it was wrong!"

Too bad no one in power is willing to tell the truth. But it will be increasingly uncomfortable for Romney and the apostles to say "no" when asked if the pre-1978 policy was wrong.

I would resign by apostleship before faced to say that.

It is quite easy to say how we would act in a position we are not in.

AS far as Romney goes, I imagine he is his fathers son and therefor carries a lot of his fathers beliefs. I served in the Detroit area. Romney's father was a man who was very much a supporter of civil rights. I don't remember the details, but remember a Stake Conf. were a black lady was on the stand with Gov. Romney. Someone told me he was not happy about the churches position on the blacks, no so much the priesthood, but the fact we actively avoided proselyting the blacks. There were black members in the Detroit area, but we were told not to actively proselyte.

If that was directed to my comments, then I would have to say this is one of another of your dumb ass emotional responses.

I was there. I talked to people. I was shocked that a person of Romney's stature would voice open oppostion to what came out of SLC. Don't belittle the man and his opinion when you have nothing but your emotional feelings to base it on.

Or it's like saying his dad (Romney’s) supported civil rights legislation.

Privately telling someone he wasn't happy with the church's proselyting policy, and you hearing about it as hearsay.

That took amazing courage I'm sure. Give me a break.

You want to see courage why you don't you look right here.

Is it courage to always speak your mind?

I don't see taking positions publicly is necessary to being courageous.

Creating positive change while taking on personal risk. That is courage. *See Juanita Brooks.

Do you possess courage? At least as it pertains to this issue of racism and the church? Most of your crusading du jour seems to be behind a cloak of invisibility on this chat board, but obviously I do not know what you do in your real life.

Have you spoken with your local leaders about your concerns?
