Question for my fellow Republicans
Democrats and other feel free to chime in as well.
Suppose that it has been predetermined that a Democrat will win the next presidential election and no Republicans are allowed to run. The field of candidates has been limited to the current individuals who have either declared their candidacy or have expressed interest (Hillary, Vilsack, Obama, Edwards, Richardson, Biden, Dodd, Clark, Kucinich). Then suppose that the 22nd Amendment was repealed and Presidents were allowed to serve beyond two terms. My question is this. Would you support Bill Clinton over all of the current Dem candidates running for office? If so, would you have possibly looked to him as the best hope for America's future eight years ago? When I look at the current Dems, I am not thrilled with the selection. As a native of rural Utah, it's in my DNA to despise Hillary. I have no choice. I think Edwards is a phony. Obama is interesting, but he's too much of a wildcard. I wonder about him being too opportunistic. He's only been in the Senate for a couple of years. Very audacious. Wesley Clark has good military credentials, but he's politically incompetent. Dodd has skeletons and will barely have enough money to print a few posters. Biden, who I actually like, is a straight shooter but he has no filter between his brain and mouth. He's also got an ego that's inflated even more than most politicians. Richardson could possibly work out. He's fiscally conservative and pragmatic in the Bill Clinton sense. I hope he gets more airplay. Vilsack is a lot like Richardson in my mind, but less fiscally conservative. He doesn't seem like a big idealogue, but he'll have to play like he is. I don't know a whole lot about him at this point. Kucinich is a hippie. With the exception of Richardson and maybe Vilsack, I think I would prefer Bill Clinton to every one of these candidates. I never, ever thought that would be a possibility. |

I would rather have Gus the field goal kicking mule in the White House than any Democrat. Of course, being from the donkey family, I suppose Gus is a Democrat, so I guess I would vote for one.

I miss Bill a lot. I think I would have to go with him over any current politician because you know what you are going to get competent administration and fiscal responsibility. Of course, you would have to also accept a very flawed individual, but hopefully he would have been sufficiently chastened by the very public scandal to clean up.
I do like Richardson a ton. He is my personal favorite, but I kind of doubt that he is a sexy enough candidate to do it on his own. I believe that we would be looking at the end of the Gore administration if Richardson ad been the VP nominee rather than turncoat Lieberman. |

Not in the dark not in a tree
not in a train, you let me be! I do not like him here or there I do not like him anywhere! Anyway, what is this, worst case scenario day? No republicans allowed? Clinton allowed to run again? That's just scary. |

I will reluctantly agree with DetroitDad here in that the Clinton administration was successful, due to the fact that all but his first two years were with a Republican Congress to keep him - and him likewise to keep them - in check. I'm of the belief that a Dem in the White House and the Dems still in control of the House would be fiscally and socially disastrous.

Between Dubya and Billy Ms. Gordon would wish
To go jump in the ocean to swim with the fish! It's these two men that she despises the most the thought of them scares her even worse than a ghost! With Billy it's sleaze but with Dubya it's war And Ms. Gordon now wishes she'd voted for Gore! |
