"Hmmm, let's see. We've got a Mormon character, so let's make a joke about .... polygamy! Har har har! How original!"

Did they do their research? There's no real way to know, is there. But I don't think the assumption that they did is on any more fundamentally sound ground than that they didn't.

I totally agree! I can't believe how poor their research is. You'd think that show was for entertainment or something. I expect all my dramas to be scripted like scientific documentaries, at the very least, particularly the words of the unlikable jackass main character.

I don't think anyone is expecting that.

I wonder if they stayed up late coming up with polygamy and alcohol jokes.

I'm certainly not expecting anything more than new material ... hence I am consistently dissappointed with tv and don't watch, because of the lack of new material.

I found the article interesting, like many of you find the show interesting.

It plays very well in the actual show. I don't remember any alchohol jokes, and referring to someone as "Big Love" isn't strictly a polygamy joke. I just think it's hilarious that certain people think that accuracy in flippant insults would make for "good" or "realistic" writing.

No this is my impression too. That we are being persecuted in someway is always a safe position to take when your audience is LDS. You can always say it and work backwards to find the evidence.

These are just the growing pains of becoming mainstream.

It's not about accuracy -the stereotypes are accurate exageration -they are also tired and worn out. Hades, I can go to the Second City Improv everynight and hear the same tired old jokes from hacks on a break from their real job waiting tables.

Am I the only person who has never watched an episode of House?

Like pretty much every other show on network television, it offers me absolutely no reason to watch it.

And yet you didn't actually see the show in question, so unless you admit to being spoonfed your position by the loon at deseret news, I'm not sure why you're even opining.
