Tamil Tigers
Maybe it is just to my Western eyes and ears, but "Tamil Tigers" strikes me as a strange name for a terrorist/resistance/insurgency group. It's like they are a sports team who goes by "Tigers." I mean, are they going to be the Al Qaeda "Bearcats" in the future? How about the Taliban Mountain Lynx?
Of course, us Americans have our own example of using a kind of mascot name for our military efforts. I doubt that we have heard the last of the Tamil Tigers. As long as there are millions of Tamils who desire an independent homeland. |
