That's the first I've seen of it. Not many Jews in southern Italy.

Should I assume the program wasn't inspired? Or were the missionaries not from two parent families, thus they screwed it up?

I was in Montreal when this came otu and part of my area was comprised primarily of orthodox and reformed Jews. We rarely got in and were accused of some rather unpleasant things at the door (baby killer; hitler lover, and so forth) . I also felt a little dirty when using the discussions becasue they omitted completely any mention of Jesus until very deep into the encounter. At the door we said something like we had a message from the prophets. When in the door (a rare occurrence) we talked about the prophets and revelation and even introduced Joseph Smith before ever mentioning Jesus. The program was introduced with great fanafre and then it just sort of disappeared within a matter of months (and maybe even weeks). SUddenly no one asked us about it and we stopped reporting on it etc.

Well, I was from a single parent family, so that might explain it.

By my reckoning, both on my mission and later in life, as well as in early life, educated well-off people are not likely to convert, esp. when in their 30s or above.

The future of the church, in terms of converts is 1) the poor and uneducated and 2) some college kids and teenage friends of members.

Hence the strong necessity in making sure that these convert kids are educated.

I'm noticing in my ward that the retention rate with these poor converts is not very good.

unfortunately, their habits, lack of fellowshipping and tithing takes its toll.

Probably a lot of these converts could benefit from a full-on life coach. Jobs, education, finances, relationships, parenting.

Scriptures and prayer are only one piece of the puzzle. And let's face it, that's a full-time job just to coach one person.

There's a lot of members doing exactly this sort of thing, helping these new members, but of course there are a lot falling through the cracks.

We had a missionary from Twin Falls (Elder
Katz
) who grew up Jewish and converted. He was given this program and sent out to find and teach all the Jews in Winnipeg. He didn't have a lot of success.
