West coast shaped glasses? You need to put away your Lone Star monocle and look with both eyes.

If Collie was from France and had never heard of football, he would still be a far superior WR than Reed.

It ain't even close.

One thing that has not been mentioned yet is that Austin has clearly lived righter off the field. That is where the bulk of his talent comes from.

It's not an opinion. It's a fact.

One will go down as the best WR in BYU history, while the other as a good WR, will still go down as just another BYU WR that was merely a cog in the machine.

Another Texas WR, McKay Jacobsen was better as a Freshman than Reed was as a Junior.

I say Reed is a solid wide out by BYU standards. He has had his moments.
I still remember that beautiful catch he made against Wyoming the season before last.

He isn't nearly as good as Collie, but he isn't a bad player.

I didn't say Reed is a bad player. And he's definetly had his moments. I like Reed, but he doesn't compare at all to Collie.

Mike Reed:

2005: 21 catches 272 yards 1 td
2006: 25 catches 329 yards 3 td
2007: 45 catches 449 yards 4 td

Austin Collie
2004: 53 catches 771 yards 8 td
2007: 56 catches 956 yards 7 td

Collie has 18 more career catches, 721 more career yards and 7 more touchdowns in 1 less season than Reed. Enough said.

another thing to consider is that with McKay and Austin, they played on the right side of the offensive formations, while Reed played on the left. I notice the tendancy in Anae's offense that when he usually throws to a bookend WR, he tends to throw it to the right side.

Or he tends to throw to the better players.

There's a reason why players like Collie, Pitta and Unga get a lot of touches....because they're the playmakers.

Look, no one is saying Reed isn't a good WR, we're just saying he isn't in Collie's league. That's not a knock on Reed either. You'd be hard pressed to find other WR in the league at this point in time who're also in Collie's league.

Default Reed has the skills to get a shot at the next level...

his blocking is outstanding. Crisp routes. Also his ablity to fight traffic and still come down with the ball. Of all of BYU's receivers over the past few seasons, Reed has more jungle catches than anyone. Pushing shoving, arms everywhere while being tangled up and still focusing to the point that you bring it down.

Those are things that will get him a shot at the NFL. Will he stick? Who knows.

Also in using the Harline Coats comparisons. You have to look to what fits where. Harline was outstanding in college. Coats was decent in college.

Harline is doing something else now. Coats is in the NFL firmly entrenched on a two deep roster. What is valued and why makes all the difference in the world.
