Has anyone ever used allofmp3.com - cougarguard.com — unofficial BYU Cougars / LDS sports, football, basketball forum and message board

A buddy of mine pointed me toward this website.

www.allofmp3.com

Here's what I know:

1)Incredibly cheap music downloads - most songs cost about $.10 each; entire cds for $1.00-1.50.

2) Amazing selection - some music available which cannot be found on regular US music websites or stores.

3)Hosted by a Russian company. Disclaimer in the user agreement that states that downloading music from this website is not against your countries laws and regulations (or something like that).

My buddy has some friends who are attorneys who have read through it and say it is legit. I'm still skeptical and have not tried using it.

Anyone ever used it or have thoughts on it?

i have a friend who has used it for years.

they are a legal operation in Russia. Sort of in dispute, but not really (in Russia).

Whether it is legal to dowload from them is a bit more dicey.

However it has only been the people uploading that have been sued. Not the downloaders.

You can do some searches on the website to get arguments as to its legality.

I have spent probably close to $100 over the past 3 months there on that website. Phenomenal so far and no calls from the RIAA. My 30GB Creative Zen Vision M should be full soon.

Search wikipedia for them for more information.

How do you pay? Seems like it would be a little scary to give a credit card number to an outfit like that.

I paid with a visa that has theft and identity protection. Two deposits of $50 and no issues so far. However, you can pay using xrost I believe which is like purchasing a gift certficate which you can then apply to your account.

If you do it, download the alltunes program. It will make the search, uploading and downloading process much easier.

People have been using this site for years. It's a bit questionable in its legality as Mike pointed out but it's not completely overt pirating like you see on a p2p gnutella network.
