I don't even know what you mean by "always".

I would trust my kids to a random San Angelo Texas Baptist Church choir foster parent before I'd trust them with the FLDS wackos. Honestly, wouldn't you?

I trust the county attorney and sheriff's dept in that dusty Texas town, while not handle the situation perfectly, also not to commit too great an atrocity.

I guess that is what it really comes down to--do you trust the government officials elected by the people (or appointed by the elected officials) to be reasonable? If not, you have the dual checks of elections and the constitution.

But to automatically side with those with a systematic racist, sexist and child-abusing belief system over the Texas authorities seems pretty paranoid to me. Maybe your line of thinking explains Bo Gritz's cult-hero status among so many Mormons. I just don't get it.

I don't see this as an either/or type situation. Do I think some real skanky things have gone on with the FLDS, yes I do. Do I tend to come down conservative when it comes to civil liberties, yea. I would have no problem with rounding up all types of people I consider perverts and put them through thought reprogramming training.

However, some things I have seen over the last few years have given me pause. I have seen people in the justice system here in Utah way over step what I consider to be reasonable. I now understand even in good ole Utah, I am not as conservative as some who get in power and I am not so sure they wouldn't take away my rights if they got the chance.

If it is an either or choice, I come down on the side of the gov't on this one, but I am not comfortable with it and think it could be handled a lot better so the innocent ones aren't being punished along with the guilty.

If you're claiming that's not assumption & conjecture, you're more idiotic than I thought.
