Your argument is something of a red herring, Mike.

I believe the essential point is found here, in the Seventh Lecture on Faith:

Quote:
Let us here observe, that a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation; for, from the first existence of man, the faith necessary unto the enjoyment of life and salvation never could be obtained without the sacrifice of all earthly things. It was through this sacrifice, and this only, that God has ordained that men should enjoy eternal life; and it is through the medium of the sacrifice of all earthly things that men do actually know that they are doing the things that are well pleasing in the sight of God. When a man has offered in sacrifice all that he has for the truth's sake, not even withholding his life, and believing before God that he has been called to make this sacrifice because he seeks to do his will, he does know, most assuredly, that God does and will accept his sacrifice and offering, and that he has not, nor will not seek his face in vain. Under these circumstances, then, he can obtain the faith necessary for him to lay hold on eternal life.

So you are saying murder is a sacrifice of an earthly thing? I don't get it.

No, you don't. Nor do you particularly want to.

thanks for the non-answer. Gutless. But at least honest about it.

Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean it's a non-answer. And quit pretending like this has never been discussed. Few dead horses have been more beaten.

Must be one of those things only the enlightened can understand.

People have been killing their children in the name of God for eons. Human sacrifice has been part of human history, probably forever.

Is it ever God's will? And if so, what does that say about God?

"it will never be asked of me" is not an answer.

I think many of you find it very uncomfortable because you have to balance your devotion to God with your devotion to good.

Being asked to do evil for God is very uncomfortable. And something that intellectually dishonest people are unwilling to discuss in an honest way.

Evil is in the eye of God.

Which is the reason I am not particularly inclined to discuss it here. You seem much less anxious to honestly discuss it than to pick a fight.
