Default Brokeback Mountain (again)

I believe someone on this site predicted that it would be nominated for an Academy Award. Whoever it was, was spot on.

My question: if it wasn't about a homosexual relationship, would it have been nominated?

My guess is that it wouldn't have received a nomination, as the gay agenda is Hollywood's latest societal cause du jour.

Perhaps you are jumping to conclusions.

My question: if it wasn't about a cowboy relationship, would it have been nominated?

How do you know that the cowboy agenda isn't Hollywood's latest cause du jour?

Ang Lee has made many good movies. Throw in the writer of Lonesome Dove....

As someone said on utefans.net

"No one writes depressing gay cowboy stories like Ang Lee"

Lee already made a movie about a gay guy, who marries a girl to please his parents, etc.

It seems like every movie nominated for an Oscar now a days has to be controversial.

Whatever happened to the good wholesome family films, that were good for a few laughs and you really dont have to think all that much to enjoy them, take Cheaper By the Dozen for example.

I mean Steve Martin are favorite LDS actor is in it, why doesnt that get a nod.

I would watch Cheaper by the Dozen if it were directed by Quentin Tarantino. Now that would be some movie.

Quentin Tarantino might be the greatest director ever, i would love to see him do a kids movie, how bad ass would shrek be? He would have sliced the donkey all to pieces, and then drank the blood.

Come on. That's not fair. It wouldn't even be the same story. If Romeo and Juliet were both boys, the feud between the Montagues and the Capulates would not be the whole source of the tension in their relationship--indeed, it might be beside the point--the conflict in the play would be of a completely different character, and it would not be the same play, for better or worse.

If the relationship in Brokeback Mountain were between a man and a woman it would be a story about marriage, and maybe about marital infidelity. Apples and oranges.

If Don Corleone were a dry cleaner with no mob connections would the Godfather have been as beloved?

We will just guess some topics aren't for everybody.

The list of movie genres seems to diminish every year. Or I just grow crankier every year, I'm uncertain which is closer to the truth.
