If I don't have a kid by the time I'm 40, I'm going to adopt one.

That's a great article.

Great article. Thanks for posting that YOhio.

I have a friend who went to the Ukraine several years back to adopt a baby girl. When he and his wife got there, they fell in love with another little girl, much older than they had planned on adopting.

Long story short, they ended up coming home with 4 Ukranian girls, all between the ages of 8 and 11. Two sets of sisters who were also all best friends.

The overseas orphanages were atrocious btw. Everything you see on 20/20 or Nightline is true, and then some.

Well, thats an even longer story. My friend has since moved and we have for the most part lost contact. One of the girls is living with his parents in my hometown and is very well-adjusted.

It took them awhile to adjust to American life. the language was tough. Survival at school was also a challenge. Shortly after they got here, one of the girls was getting harassed by a boy at school, so she kicked him in the nuts. After mom and dad showed up at the school to talk to the principal, they told her,"Sweetie, please don't kick boys in that place." Her repsonse, "Okay, where do I kick them?"

The kid deserved it. My heart goes out to those poor girls. What a huge challenge to change worlds at such a young, yet aware, age. I'm glad to hear that at least one of the girls is doing well.
