Duh, I forgot Otero was Puerto Rican not Brazilian, but I thought I had heard that Roese was the one with the connections to his coach or team or who primarily recruited him. I can't remember well. But a lot of these guys were coming for the personal connection with Roese, not necessarily because they grew up BYU fans. I hope you guys are right about us maintaining the Otero commitment.

Default otero is not puerto rican or cuban

he is tight with roese

Didn't he live with Roese? I would think this is a huge setback for him personally and for the program in general.

I view this similar to the Jeff Grimes thing. Granted San Diego is a step below program wise, but promotion wise it's a step up and I don't view that as an indicator of problems at BYU, rather than a coach wanting to take the next step towards eventually being a Head Coach.

Much Ado About Nothing.

Yeah I know JT's tight with Roese, but he's got a nice future at BYU carved out ahead of him. I assumed Otero had nothing to lose by switching, but I forgot that his LOI tied him to BYU for a year.

two different things

we can't pay our assistants more than the university of san diego?

that is troubling

It's similar to Jeff Grimes about how it's an indication of problems at BYU. I don't see it as that. It's much different than Jeff Grimes in that Roese did an amazing job of recruiting international players. Haffa, Lemes, Malaman, JT, Otero. He also nearly landed Batista that went to Gonzaga and brought in Broadus as the fruit of the labors with that JC. So the potential effect to the program is way bigger in this case.

Where have some of our other recent assistant basketball coaches gone to from BYU?
