Comittee Arrogance
Ohio State:
#1 in the avg computer rankings #1 in RPI #1 landslide in coaches poll #1 landslide in media poll #3 Selection Committee These guys need some serious reform. Get the power brokers out of the selection formula. Put in a quantitative formula or hold the selection committee to its feet when they don't use a quantitative formula. Selection Committee is my new #2 hated entity after BCS. |

I guess I'm different than everyone else. I don't care about seedings at all. The last team standing wins it all anyway, so who cares what order you play the teams in? Poor seeding practices hurt the good teams too. How would you like to be a 3 seed and have to play a team that should have been a 5 or 6 seed, but was seeded 14th? I say as long as everyone has access, that's good enough. Let's just put all 65 teams in a hat and draw the names out for game matchups. Now that would be exciting!

This was meant as a response to BlueHair:
Although you are correct that in order to win a championship you have to win every game, teams are compensated by how many rounds they last. A loss in the first round is more costly than a loss in the second round. A loss is a loss as far as winning the championship is concerned but the second round team makes more money. Even though there can only be one winner, the seeding has a great impact on how much money your team makes and thus seeding is a big deal. Last edited by BigFatMeanie; 03-13-2007 at 12:19 AM. There is so much crying for a 16-team football playoff, and once it is finally implemented, I am sure there will be the same whining reaction over seeds. Even though everyone knows the 12 seed would not have won four games to take the title, they will still pout that they would have made it to the second round had they received the 10 seed and played the 7 team, instead of being the 12 seed facing the 5 team.

To Rocky: (sorry, I forgot to quote)
I don't have a specific example. I was just making a point that bad seeding doesn't benefit anyone. Year in and year out teams and fans cry about who they have to play. "We don't get any respect!" Who cares? If you are worried about who you are playing, you don't belong. To steal a line from you, "Don't be a such pussies!" Just show up and play. Win a game and prove you were seeded wrong.
