I would trade an occasional BCS game, plus beating your rival like a drum every several years for a slightly higher final season ranking on an annual basis.

We actually performed better Sagarin-wise in 2006 when we pounded Oregon than their BCS trip in (2008?). That they keep pounding us is indication that we need to gut the rivalry. Play them every 5 years as a "Holy War Memorial Game."

Do I care whether we performed better Sagarin wise? That just proves he knows nothing. An undefeated Sugar Bowl winner rates lower than a one loss Vegas bowl winner? Insanity.

Chino:
In the past, Ute fans have attempted to smack down BYU's 1984 season in several ways: (1) The big, early win over Top 5 Pitt turned out to be a sad 3-8 team (2) Their second-tier bowl game was a joke, barely defeating an unranked 6-5 team (3) Today's BCS computers, when plugging in data from that year, rank BYU 7th Dumb arguments, but the best that could be scraped together. Today, in this thread, your attempts to belittle Utah's recent accomplishments in the BCS, PAC-12, and rivalry game feel very similar. Any time Utah's Sugar Bowl win over Alabama is mentioned in the media, it is highly doubtful that anyone stops and thinks, "I suspect that BYU's 2006 Sagarin rating was higher. What a sham it was for the PAC to expand." Just let it go. 54-10 only happens once every 89 years. Leave it be. |

Let's just kill this "rivalry." I'm with Bronco. Be done with it. If UT and A&M can end, surely this piece o' crap rivalry can end.

Playing Utah is irrational. If we're evenly matched, they blow us out. When we're leaps and bounds better, they threaten our ranking.

Texas found OU. We will find a Big-12 rival soon enough that'll make it easier.

All this talk of ending the rivalry game on a the heels of having our butts handed to us is pretty unseemly and smacks of poor sportsmanship.

I favored ending it before we played.

Overall Record BM: 57-23 KW: 59-21 vs. MWC Teams BM: 39-10 KW: 36-13 vs. non-MWC Teams BM: 18-13 KW: 23-8 vs. BCS Teams (including Notre Dame) BM: 9-11 KW: 11-6 Bowl Games BM: 4-2 KW: 5-1 Head to Head BM: 3 KW: 4 We all know that after their first two seasons, BM was slightly more successful than KW in every category except for bowl wins. However, today, what is more important: 2011 or 2005? Let's toss out the first 30 games and restrict the same data to the most recent 50 games, to put greater emphasis on the current and most recent state of affairs: Overall Record BM: 37-13 KW: 42-8 vs. MWC Teams BM: 24-6 KW: 26-4 vs. non-MWC Teams BM: 13-7 KW: 16-4 vs. BCS Teams (including Notre Dame) BM: 7-5 KW: 8-3 Bowl Games BM: 3-1 KW: 3-1 Head to Head BM: 2 KW: 3 In these twelve categories, BM outperformed KW in only one of them: vs. MWC teams when including 2005 and 2006. That's all. Would you like me to keep going? Record vs. TCU BM: 2-4 KW: 3-3 Win/Loss Record of Bowl Opponents BM: 41-30 KW: 54-18 ... |
