Default Speaking of the deer hunt...

Which caliber do you folks use for hunting?

I use 30.06 Springfield.

Last couple of years I've been using my Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab.

Effer's are like rats around here and they wander out of the borrow pit at the most inopportune times.

I've never hunted deer. Or anything for that matter. My dad never had a gun, much less hunted.

If I start hunting, I will be among the few that get into it without any exposure as a kid.

For you it will not be about the tradition, but rather the thrill of the kill.

Ah, the Texas sportsman. Why don't you take things slow, go to one of those huntin' ranches down there where they let you shoot old circus animals in their cages?

You wouldn't even need to leave your desk.

Interesting choice.

Are you able to save most of the venison? The great thing about .06 is that I can shoot at the neck/head which blows it up and save all the meat. No hollow points though. I learned that lesson already.

I'm only in it for the mounts. I've managed to take out only the back 3/4 both times leaving a pristine head.
