At first, I disfavored bib shorts, but now I agree, they're best.

All the jerseys I now acquire are bib shorts for race teams. Some are from Louie Garneaux, others from Voler and a few other brands.

Get great bike shorts.

One hint, don't get white shorts, go dark.

Default Bibs vs. std shorts

Why are bibs 'better' or even preferred? They look incredibly uncomfortable...however, I've never even so much as tried one on, but they don't look comfortable.

My wife couldnt' believe it as well.

Why? They just are. One, they don't have waste bands. Something about that makes them more comfortable.

The one disadvantage, doing nature's business is not as tidy. You will just pull of the leg, but dumping requires a major ordeal.

No waist band to bind. The shoulder straps keep the sides of the shorts suspended so that as you move, stand, sit , change position, etc., they never bind up and stay quite comforntable at all times. My wife hates the way they look and refuses to try them.

Did you say "suspended"? Um....that is assuming you don't have a Michelin All Season Radial tire circling your midsection like I do.

My cycling goal right now is to wear a large cycling jersey, and have it 'flap' in the wind as ride.

As far as your wife and/or female riders with bibs...that would seem to be to be even MORE uncofortable as it would seem to really annoy on a females upper body. I don't blame her for that.

That is a common scenario. I don't know why but all of the guys I know who club ride with their wives have bibs but NONE of the wives do.

I don't know why women seem to dislike bibs.

Listen, I have battled weight problems my whole life and I can unequivocally tell you that the bigger I am the more I perfer bibs. really. If you have a roll try the bibs. You'll love them.

I believe all females should wear them, as what hangs out does NOT annoy me.

Unfortunately, my jerseys flap in the wind.
