The Heart of the Game
I remember Mike mocked my choice of this documentary in a past post. I finally watched it yesterday, and I am here to recommend it to y'all.
It's about a high school girl's basketball team in the Seattle area. (I know, bring on the derision!) Actually, it mostly focuses on the slightly unorthodox coach and the star player. Mike watched the last half or so, and I think he ended up liking it. My alma mater high school team makes a very brief appearance in it. |

I liked it. "Slightly unorthodox" is not exactly the phrase I would use to describe the coach. He's just plain nuts. That pack-of-wolves-tearing-out-the-other-teams-throats stuff was creepy.

the coach was the only interesting part. Tax lawyer at UW is the basketball coach.
That's pretty cool. I could imagine being a boys basketball coach and taking a team to state. However that's not likely. Boys' basketball coaching jobs highly competitive, not going to take a part-timer. Plus, I have a friend who coaches girls basketball, and he says that the girls actually listen most of the time. |
