BYU's New Walk-Ons

The BYU football team conducted its walk-on tryouts today, and 10 players made the first cut. They were all well aware of BYU's walk-on tradition of success, including this year's all-walk-on starting secondary down the stretch.

Here is the list of BYU's potential Chad Lewis':

Jake Gerber
Doug Young
Steven Fisher
Tana Uyema
Dustin Graham
Daniel Holmoe (No nepotism involved for the athletic director's son. He just returned from a mission and earned the spot.)
Ryan Trane
Spencer Orr
Jonathan McCullough
Steven McFarlane

A few of them let out screams of excitement when they saw their name posted on the piece of white paper. A group of four excitedly grabbed their belongings and headed for some celebratory "grub."

"It's better than Christmas," said Gerber, a freshman cornerback from Iowa.

The walk-ons spent much of the afternoon filling out paperwork so they can be eligible to begin running and lifting with the team on Monday. They will endure a three-week test period before being reevaluated.

"It's been my dream to play BYU football," said Young, a junior cornerback from Idaho who played for the Magic Valley Bulldogs in the Rocky Mountain Football League and arrived at BYU this semester.

Is John McCullough the son of former Cougar Center Keith McCullough?
