I'm posting this here rather than CB so I can cuss. Rocky is an asshole.

Listen douchebag, just because a majority of people have similar opinions on something doesn't mean they're sheep, and just because most people in Utah don't agree with your position, it doesn't mean there isn't free speech. I don't see anyone hauling your sorry ass to jail for your outrageous statements about the President. What the hell have you done for your city anyway, besides obstruct and further widen the Mormon / non-Mormon divide?

I actually supported Rocky the first time he ran for mayor, because I thought he had some good ideas and an exciting vision for the city. To me, party affiliation doesn't matter as much for mayors, but Rocky has used position solely to advance his national and international stature on issues that have little to do with good city government.

Amen and amen. If I was a resident of SLC, I'd call Rocky's office and demand that he get his keister back to doing the work he was elected to do and stop hobnobbing with the leftist elites on the SLC taxpayer dollar.

1- He's drawn positive attention to SLC & Utah from a part of the broader national political spectrum that had previously written off the state as a backwater of arch-conservative religious extremism.

2- He's pushed environmental awareness, been a leader in this area. (Actually walks the walk, drives a Prius, unlike Gore)

3- He's been a counterweight to the homogenous political powers in the state. If he wanted to run again, he'd probably win again, only for this reason.

The sad reality in Utah is that Rocky gets a lot of tacit support from Utah liberals only because he's willing to say what he thinks, regardless of the ramifications in a very conservative political environment; Utah liberals tend to ignore his blemishes becase he's their sole representative.
