Don't all statements of prophets (be they ancient or modern) need to be viewed through the lens of their times? They ARE human after all.

Dare I be so heretical as to say 50 years from now we may look back on some of the things that GBH or other prophets from "our time" said with a critical eye? Will that change the fact that they are prophets? Of course not.
I agree. Prophets are primarily for their own time. They needed them then and we need our prophets today. If that weren't true we may as all become Baptist and pretend we can go fine for 2,000+ years without them. Bruce R McConkie belongs to another era, so what Triplet says sounds fine to me. What Brigham Young said to his audience is not necessarily all authoritative or doctrinal for us today.

I agree with this 100%. So my question from earlier....why all the Bruce Red bashing?

Depends on if you mean "critical" in the pejorative sense.

Otherwise I agree.

Maybe, maybe not.

Curiousity question: when a passage that you see as of questionable authenticity is reiterated multiple times by modern prophets, does that change the calculus for you, or not?
Oh, I'm enjoying the evening. Just not the company.

I'm not the least inclined to indulge your curiosity. Telling you why I think what I do would be pointless. You have demonstrated time and again that you aren't actually interested in what people think, other than to try to conform them to your own fundamentalist mindset.

That's not true, but you're welcome to decline. Nice chatting with ya!

Have a great day, High Inquisitor. Thank you for telling me that I'm "welcome to decline." It was so nice of you to provide me with such useful information. Or were you granting permission?

Regardless, go out there and get those apostates!

Please stop sending me nasty PMs. If you have something demeaning to say, have the guts to do it out in the open.

Nasty? Whatever. I haven't said anything in PM that I haven't said on the board.

I'm just counting how many communications we can have where you try to issue commands or otherwise imply what other people should do.
