The rumors behind him being "banned" are also inaccurate.

His Dad mentioned to David in passing that he could throw in the "Beautiful Girls" lyric which unbeknownst to them would added to the royalties paid out because of that popular song....I can't remember the artist who did it in the past year.

When the producers approached Jeff Archuleta about it, he realized his mistake and apologized. It was really as innocent and simple as that. They are learning the process along the way.

None of the judges or producers have had any run-ins with Jeff Archuleta.

I find it hilarious that Momma Judd came out on a recent tabloid talk show talking about bad he was to deal with when David was on Star Search several years ago when the reality of it is that she never ONE time spoke to David or his father behind the scenes during the show. She was one of the judges. In fact when David found out about her musical past he wanted to meet her and she blew not only him off, but the rest of the contestants on the show and refused to let anyone approach her at all.

No, I am pretty sure someone will write a bunch of songs for him and he will sing them...wait, those are called covers.

I don't see him singing anything but pop, which as you fairly pointed out, is likely his demo anyway.

Could you see him pulling off Ring of Fire? Or Tumblin' Dice? Or Sunday Bloody Sunday? Or Subterranean Homesick Blues?

At his age, the only stuff he could sing would be "Email my Heart" or "Oops, I did it again." so that brings us full circle.....since very few here would listen to that, why does everyone care?

Let's say he wins. Then what? Do you see him filling up Staples Center and Madison Square Garden so that people can come listen to this little guy sing cover songs? That is what I do not get....the cult of voting or whatever for winners on the show. Maybe I am missing the boat, but are we saying that David Archuleta is a serious musician? We are going to buy David Archuleta discs and go to his shows? That is the disconnect for me. And, admittedly, maybe I am missing it entirely.
Of course lots of people can sing, but then there's a whole higher echelon of those who can reach another level with their voice and it affects a lot of people. I've seen that up close with him.

Granted, he's got the same demographic right now as the Hannah Montana crowd and yes there is a pre-packaged thing to go along with that, but it's hardly his fault and he shouldn't be labeled a hack because of it. The kid is 17 for hellssakes and learning the process.

EDIT: I think if you were in a smaller room, in a church setting with him, like I've been on several occasions, you just might be surprised to feel the power in his voice when sitting a few feet away and I think it would take you by surprise. It is something extraordinary.

wait, rocky do you knows these folks? I thought it was IPU that had the connection?

Anyway, the dailies here have painted him as being the next Dina Lohan (which I would agree with you....very exaggerated and unwarrented, even if rumors of the royalties incident were true, it is only one incident).

My understanding was that the dad had made other demands as the show progressed and his son emerged as a front runner, included travel and lodging perks for him (the dad), as well as the ability to start traveling with a small entourage (likely family, I would guess). Does any of that have teeth?

Cougjunkie, you're OK even if you're going a little metro.

You're the anti-hipster, the kryptonite to DDD.

I am a strong believer in the power of music, so no need to prove it to me. I already believe you 100%.

Hopefully the guy has a long career, then. My wife will certainly text a bunch for him, no doubt.

I always thought covers were remakes. I am sure he will have plenty of songs written specifically for him.

However I could be wrong you know more about music than I do.

According to the dictionary I am correct.

Noun1.cover song - a recording of a song that was first recorded or made popular by somebody else

So I stand by my point that he is not going to make a whole album of "covers".

Yes I know these folks.

The understandings and rumors that people seem to be getting are all from tabloid shows and rumors from other people and they heard it from this person,,etc...etc....

Basically that entire paragraph of rumors you've heard are blatant lies.

If living in a small 2 bedroom apartment with his Dad during the season near the studio where they rehearse is lodging perks for the Dad then um...okay? They are paying for the apartment with their own money and the Dad has never made any demands of the kind.

The only thing his Dad has been protective of is the 3-4 hours a day that David still has to be with in a teacher with school so that he can finishi his High School credits.

Except for this week and one other week the Mom has stayed in Murray with the other kids taking care of them.

FWIW: My brother was just released as Bishop 3 weeks ago, but is still intimately close with the famliy and is staying in daily touch with Jeff and David.

My mom is SOOO excited because David has promised to come over to their house and sing some of her favorite hymns for her. I've had to temper her enthusiasm some because he likely won't have any time for the next 1-2 years to do this. I hope he's able to before her Alzheimers gets too bad.
