You have no business on this thread. You don't even know who Bateman is.

They've made 4 movies about him. I'm sure she knows who Batman is.

No, generally we find his gayness quite sufferable.

There are much more serious obstacles to discovering truth in the humanities. Limits on academic freedom shouldn't be a primary concern.

what exactly did Bateman "mismanage"? He was in the upper echelons of M&M Mars before heading the b-school.

I never said Bateman's record was good when measuring BYU against some abstract conception of a university.

Here is USNews's rating criteria:

http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandre...ight_brief.php

25% is peer assessment. That is the only indicator affected by limitations on academic freedom. If someone knows BYU's academic reputation score, please share. IIRC, it's about on par with than its overall ranking.

As Waters indicated, this concerns mainly humanities disciplines. BYU has a good reputation in many other fields. In a few, we're among the undergraduate leaders (acct, stats, econ). I think Bateman's biggest achievement in this area is pulling undergrads into research.

15% student selectivity. Bateman doesn't have much control over that; that rises as a consequence of Church growth.

30% faculty and financial resources. The money he raised made BYU the #3 most wired campus, have the #3 library, student athletic complex. This category is uncontroversial.

20% graduation/retention. He did what was possible to overcome Y's unique circumstances with missions by getting people to graduate earlier.

5% alumni giving. We can all attest that he did what could be done.

5% graduation rate performance. I don't know enough to assess.

When I started BYU was sub-100. Throughout the time I was there we were hovering around #70.

It's clear that overall, he did a great job.

I was in a class with one each of Rex's and Merril's kids. Rex's was better looking (primarily because she is a she). Besides Merril's older son spit on me when I was in ninth grade. These facts alone proves that he was a disaster for BYU.

From my vantage point, I will take that as a compliment, especially coming from the likes of you.

It is said, that in the end, you will find yourself in a place with similar people, those that think, behave and believe as you do. A place where you will be comfortable living/existing in.

Heaven forbid if I find myself in a place with you and I'm feeling "comfortable" in that environment.

Honestly, I can only hope to end up in the same place/environment as people such as him, and if the choice be mine, I'd MUCH rather be in the same place that he is bound to go, and be around him and people like him; than you, and people like you.
