Any lover of BYU and of dialogue, critical thinking, empiricism, the heart and soul of a university as originally conceived by the Athenians, was troubled by Bateman's tenure as BYU president. He followed Rex Lee, who was passionate about making BYU fully a member of the sisterhood of respected U.S. universities. Yeah, that could be true I guess. Can't say as that I really know. It really doesn't have anything to do with why I love him. Regardless of the whatever criticism people feel like they need to make, I think his intentions were always for the best.
