The type of jar isn't really important. What is important is the process. You need to seal the jars, as if you were canning fruit. Unfortunately, that locks in the smell of the money too, so you need to keep a little cash around the house to maintain that musky odor.

I was going to start putting my money in some old Mason jars I had laying around the house, but I couldn't figure out what to do with all the urine I've been saving in those jars.

Mason jars have worked great for me. There is quite a bit of clay in the soil in my yard. I've only been here for 6 years now and have found that Mason works great for those conditions. It's going to take a few more years of prepping the soil/clay before I'll have to switch to Ball jars, as they seem to seal better in conditions with more moisture.
