Belief is volitional. Professed belief even more so. As you've suggested (at least by way of subtext) it takes effort and a kind of courage to profess belief in nonsense (even though it in a sense means following a path of least resistance).

What it got me wondering is whether people like Hitchins are trying to make Obama a "black candidate," something he has assiduously avoided, specifically to harm his chances.

If you could force Obama to play the race card, or even get enough media talking as though he has played the race card, it would really hurt him.

Exactly, so he won't. I wonder if black voters are used to black candidates not giving their concerns more than just lip service. While no doubt he gets the black vote, I wonder if there aren't some expectations that probably will go unfulfilled.

When people hear that you were born and raised in Utah what is one of their first couple of questions? You get the question whether you are Mormon or not. Such is NOT a choice!

This got boring, I thought it was going to be how liberal the media is and how it is a big conspiracy against the poor Republicans. I mean, everyone knows that the leaders of all the major tv stations get together and decide who to go after and who to love. I mean, Bill Clinton was held on a pedestal and never attacked.
Sorry, I just always find it funny, the liberal media. The media hates everyone and makes fun of everyone. Its like Gordon Monson. BYU fans talk about how much he hates them and how he feels about them....Utah fans do the same. Our vision of him or of the media is skewed to how we view our sides.
