I think he prefaced the book with just those words.

Thank you much!
I read that too fast the first time. It looked like something to the effect of "I have a whole week of whoredom in a San Fran hotel room planned."

If he did and he knew it was his opinion, can we agree that his chosen title might have been a weeeeee bit arrogant?

Does this mean we now have definitive proof that cloggers are gay?

However there are some who promote the idea that their opinions are the word of God.

Correct - the last sentence of his preface reads:

"For the work itself, I assume sole and full responsibility"

That would be fine if the book carried a less preposterous and provocative title (e.g. "Mormonism Explained - A John Birch Society View").

If we agree that his chosen title was a weeeeeeeee bit arrogant, can we agree that the incessant Mormon Doctrine/BRM bashing on CG gets a weeeeeeee bit tiresome?

Some of their opinions are.

Some of their opinions are.
Really, I actually would go far enough to say most of their opinions are the in accordance with the Lord's thinking. That is why I don't condemn those who want to blindly follow everything they say as being God's will.

I just ask them not to think I need to do so.

It is a cool thing to pile on McConkie, I think because of his reflections of many cultural beliefs so prevalent in LDS culture in the 60's and 70's. Elder Bruce R. McConkie is a victim of his cultural biases no different than you and I. We might think ourselves more sophisticated, open minded and all types of nipple hardening stuff, but I am not convinced we really are. Time might make us fools as well. Time might even make the great SeattleUte a fool.

Further, I would think as open minded folks, academics, intellectualls, anti-Tex's and all that is good and great about Cougarguard, the US of A and the LDS Church we should not be advocating hiding or ignoring any book that has a collection of thoughts that has had an impact on as big a group of people as the Mormons. Disagree with it all we want, but to discard it as some type of embarassment seems to me a bit like putting one's head in the sand.

PS. I am not a mullah so if Elder McConkie, as an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, can be wrong in his opinions, which I believe he was on a certain number, so can any Stake President.
Well said, one of your finest.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.
