Sure you can. And so can I.

Do you think this is the same as the Univ of Utah? Or univ of Texas?

That equivalent numbers of faculty and staff are discouraging women from careers?

Some how the Church culture will need to make provision for these women, or the men that are attracted to them.
My ward doesn't have one either. pretty middle class ward as well

also what percent of the undergrads in engineering at BYU are women?

Compare this to comparable universities.

There are enough people at BYU with a wide enough range of thinking that one person cannot possibly represent the views and opinions of all. I have little doubt but that there are many on either side of the issue, but I suspect that the general sentiment, though innovative by comparison to the BYU of just a few years ago, is on the side of "family first."

That's not to say that the inverse is not an important factor. There's a girl I'm interested in that very much fits the description. She is extremely qualified, landed a pretty high-profile internship in Washington, DC over the summer, and impressed enough people with her work over there to open several doors to some very enticing opportunities. Getting attached to a guy in Provo would severely disrupt those opportunities. I suspect that the question of whether the two different aspects of life can be reconciled will have a lot to do with the question of whether anything happens with this one.

No and there are probably more gay professors at those Universities than at BYU too. A lot of things are different at BYU having to do with church beliefs.

Have you ever heard someone speaking in Stake Conference encouraging Young Women to pursue a professional career?

President Hinckley has been pretty consistent in urging women to get as much education as possible. Not quite the same thing, I know, but still.

I can't remember any talks from any stake conferences.

The message here is "we value you, we want you to be educated, but please do not pursue careers. your education is a fallback which hopefully you will never have to use."

That is the point I have been trying to make. Official stance is women belong married, having children and at home. That is the guideline.

There are plenty of statements and other things that would indicate the official stance though is a guideline. Many like to pull out what President Benson said and make it much more than a guideline.

This all goes back to getting revelation for ourselves which some in the church don't like. They like being told what to do.
