The MWC has the opportunity of becoming the Big 12 of the West. While the Pac-10 may slide towards irrelevancy.

Note that the best football school in the Pac-10 is also garbage in terms of academics.
USC is garbage in terms of academics? Were you thinking of washington st.?

Neither USC nor WA St. are garbage. As you see, USC is ranked very high here (27th):

USC also has a huge endowment and some fine graduate programs.

Oregon State appears the only Pac 10 school not in the top tier. BYU, Utah and WA St. are very close according to this ranking. Interestingly, BYU has really dropped in 2009 and now is very close to Utah, DESPITE UTAH'S LOWER ADMISSION STANDARDS BY LEGISLATIVE FIAT.

They'll be begging to join the MWC when the Intermountain West turns off the water spigot.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

I like that. I like it a lot.

Utah and BYU could benefit from bully tactics like that:

Gov. Huntsman: "You want the water turned back on? Make the PAC10 expand to 12 teams, bitches!"

Utah is awful and you know it, esp. the law school.

Why has BYU fallen 40 places in the 2009 ranking?

Because they have artificially inflated their admission rate.

Why would they do that you ask?

So that they can tell the Board and all the Mormon parents that they are not an exclusive school.

How do they artificially raise their admission rate you ask?

THey don't let people with lower scores and grades apply.

Is suddenly BYU getting inferior kids? No they are not.

It just shows how bogus and dumb the rankings are. Everyone knows Washington State is awful, the equivalent of Weber State.

Because a large number of women who choose not to work after obtaining their degrees were counted against BYU. BYU campaigned against this change, as did Utah, but the raters refused to budge.

Would you contend that the difference in ranking (86 positions btw) is solely because of this? USC is a top school. Mike does not know what he is talking about when discussing the quality of USC academics. I recruit from USC and UCLA almost exclusively. I look at hundreds of applications each year from these schools. I can tell you that the quality from each of these universities is equal. Is UCLA a crappy academic institution Mike?

BYU might not be as bad as 113th but a ranking of 27 for USC is impressive despite whatever disagreements you have with the ranking system.
