The problem becomes when your bosses like to take their Happy Hour to a strip club.

In my firm, this would be a non-issue, anyhow. There is so much liability and HR nightmares with making strip clubs a "semi official" after-work activity that you dont see that kind of stuff going on. Used to....for sure. when I was in Houston on some projects, our client invited us to go with them. everyone declined. It was against firm policy to go and you can never run through expenses from strip clubs......but I said no thanks because I knew that it was wrong to go. Other people wanted to go, but they didnt want to get in trouble. Professionals who are going to strip clubs as part of a social activity with co-workers are highly suspect. Do that on the weekends, not with your co-workers.

It still confuses me a bit to this day, why you can't have it both ways, drink a seltzer water, or diet coke, have fun with the buds or with co-workers. Even if they know you're Mormon, many will try to engage you until you state, "I can't I'm in training for X race." Even drinkers understand that.
But it always strikes me a little weird that drinkers pester non-drinkers. What does it matter what's in your glass, you drink what floats your boat and I'll drink what's in mine. Aside from a strip club, I'll go to wherever the buds or clients wish.

I have never had anyone bug me because I wasnt drinking alcohol. Nobody cares. Maybe i am a rare exception. What do people say to you? In my experience, people are usually very HAPPY that I am not drinking....that way, I can be both DDD and the DD at the same time.

"Come on, try a taste." So I promptly stuck my pinky in the drink, licked my pinky, and said, "See I didn't want a drink." Nobody took another sip from that drink.

In my business and sales experiences there've been times where I was razzed a little bit here and there, but I always noticed it was good natured and never mean spirited.
I was in Denver for business 3 straight weeks last Summer and had been working with a tight knit group of 15 people. Same people everyday from 7AM to 10PM at night and a few times they invited to go get drinks with them. Like TripletDaddy I'd go along for the social hangout, getting to know them better. The first time they noticed I wasn't drinking alcohol a couple of them pointed it out. Being the coincidence that I was also the only person in the group from Utah, the questions eventually came. At first there was a little bit of good natured ribbing, but never mean spirited. The last couple of nights they went out and I went with them. 2 people in the group in particular were really trying to get me to drink with them, one of them one of the hottest women I've ever met in my life, and an interesting thing happened. I drank like a fish....just kidding. The others in the group actually became very protective of me and respected the fact I didn't want to drink and told the others to leave me alone, lol. It was an interesting thing to watch. Lesson learned: Stick to your guns, but not in a haughty way, just a very nice and casual way and still be part of the group and not be a social retard, and respect them for their beliefs and those who at first thought that your lifestyle might be a little odd, will end up defending you and respecting you.

After having explained, "dude or dudette, I'm Mormon, I'm here with the buddies, and I'm in training, so no, I'm happy with my seltzer water", to receive consistent badgering, I found one need only be equally obnoxious to stop it. After spending considerable time here, I've learned how to be obnoxious. Lots of teachers. Without it, I wouldn't know how to conduct myself socially.
