This was taken from www.nationalpriorites.org. The one I find particularly interesting is Renewable Electricity. Utah has roughly 700,000 households so we could have purchased enough renewable energy to power every home for six years.
Taxpayers in Utah will pay $3.5 billion for total Iraq war spending approved to date. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided: 1,202,702 People with Health Care for One Year OR 4,305,484 Homes with Renewable Electricity for One Year OR 85,849 Public Safety Officers for One year OR 68,197 Music and Arts Teachers for One Year OR 758,257 Scholarships for University Students for One Year OR 1,490,934 Children with Health Care for One Year OR 519,992 Head Start Places for Children for One Year OR 67,397 Elementary School Teachers for One Year OR |

Of course, if that money hadn't been allocated to the Iraq War, it simply would have been redirected to other wasteful government programs, and not in some pie-in-the-sky altruistic laundry list like the one you just provided.

True. It's just an illustration of the kind of money we are wasting. We could do the same thing with most government spending. Which is why I don't like either major party. They are both big government money wasters. The only disagreement they have is where to spend the money.

I think the terrorists hate us because we're the ones who won't put up with their crap. The war could have been cheaper if it had been treated as a war. Send the troops in and really kick ass without restraints. It would have been over quickly. But politicians got involved in running it.

Don't worry. You'll get a tax increase. There is no way Obama can keep that lie going.

This isn't a popular opinion, but I think the hate terrorists feel was provoked. We wouldn't take too kindly if another nation was constantly meddling in our affairs. In fact, if we were occupied by a foreign army, I would be a terrorist in their eyes. I think the invaders would find some pretty stiff resistance by any and all means possible. The U.S. is a bully in the eyes of the rest of the world. |

My point - which I didn't make very clear - was that the U.S. didn't just turn away when the Towers were attacked. We went after those we felt were responsible - and used it as an excuse to oust a despot which was the wrong thing to do at the time - and reminded them that we won't back down from their acts. I should have pointed out that that is one of a number of reasons they hate us.
