I couldn't believe how little protection he had two summers ago. It was unreal. He finally got so freaked out about the threats to his daughters that he was able to procure Secret Service protection early.

I dunno, just seems a little convenient to me. There have been threats to Obama from day one, some more significant and more advanced than others. There were two guys with sniper rifles at the Democratic Convention, but no one heard anything about it. Why make this one public?

Perhaps this became public because of the threats to kill kids at a school.

Public officials are always going to have some sort of threat against them, otherwise there would be no need for the Secret Service.

Here's my deal, and I'm highly cynical about politics media and all of it, so bear with. If we can make it clear that racism is still a real threat in America, that generates sympathy for Obama and may provide motivation for some of the undecided voters to vote Obama just to speak out against racism. Coincidentally, the only racially-motivated plot against Obama to garner much publicity makes all the headlines the week before the election.

I honestly hadn't thought about it that way - and I'm a cynic. My belief is still that it became public because of the threat against a school, but I suppose there is that possibility of suspect timing.

If that's the case, then it's a damn shame and just as bad as the latest Dobson letter.
