By the way, CJ, I'm not so sure it was wise of you to start arguing football with SU.
It's REALLY going to hurt your strength of schedule.

First Quarter: 86 yards 1 td. (Maybe they started their reserves since they were looking ahead to OSU?)
2nd quarter: 42 yards in the 2nd quarter (not to bad by Utah) 3rd quarter: 66 yards in the 3rd. 4th quarter: 1st drive: 3 and out pass broke up by Brice Mccain (not a backup) 2nd drive: 63 yards and a td, tackles made on the drive by Paul Kruger and Brice Mccain (not backups) 3rd drive: 54 yards (tackles made by all backups) So he only threw for 257 yards against the starters.

How do the MWC teams rank nationally in yards allowed/game? I don't have to link to it because we all know Utah is still probably tops in the conference.
The only thing that mattered on Saturday was not sustaining any injuries. The W was a foregone conclusion. I don't care how many points they gave up in the fourth quarter. Utah still makes a lot of mistakes and isn't playing great football, yet. But I don't think they're a top fifteen team either. They're a top 20-25 team. That's reality. Just like the reality that BYU is not a top ten team.

quote] Total defense Utah is tops in the conference just ahead of TCU, Utah ranks 5th nationally which is very impressive. But total defense doesnt mean much, stopping teams from moving the ball has never won a team a game. Stopping them from scoring has. Scoring Defense BYU is 8th in the country and they lead the MWC, Utah is a respectable 41st. TCU, BYU and Utah all have stellar defensive numbers this year. To be honest if I was a Ute fan my biggest concern right now would be ranking 93rd in the country in turnovers lost and 69th in turnover margin. That is similar to what happened to BYU last year and we know that it cost them a few close games.

The turnovers and penalties play a role into the disparity between the total defense and scoring defense numbers for Utah. Without looking it up, I bet 60-70% of Utah's turnovers have been deep in their own territory - giving the other team a short field and more opportunities to score. Most of their TOs on special teams match the previous description. Of course you have to stop your opponent when they're in the red zone, which Utah has not done, but that just goes back to my first point.

Ironically also BYU's scoring defense has given up 11 ppg....Utah's scoring defense has given up 19 ppg.
