If you watch Out of Africa be sure you've locked all your guns in one cabinet and the ammo in another so it will take too much effort to blow your brains out when you undoubtedly get the urge to do so.

Agreed. I didn't like that one either.

I can't think of any movie Streep has been in that I liked.

Chick flick. Better than I expected, but still a chick flick.
That was a rough movie for me. Keanu Reeves is a weanie and Sandra Bullock is about as hot as Meryl Streep in her prime. The plot was lame, but I did like the shots of Chicago. That's a cool city for movies.

The GarthUte 1st rule of thumb for deciding to watch a movie:

Is Sandra Bullock in it?

If the answer is yes, don't watch it.

Not a bad rule. I think you should expand it to include Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Tim Allen, post-1990 Steve Martin, and a few others I can't think of right now.

Absolutely.

Actually, the best rule for deciding to not see a movie is if my wife wants to see it. If she does, I know I'll want to gouge my eyes out and stab my eardrums with a penknife.

I am going to disagree with the post-1990 Steve Martin You will be missing out on LA Story and Bowfinger, two of his finest moments. In addition you would be missing out on the solid My Blue Heaven as well.

In fact while Steve Martin has been in mostly crap post 1990, I believe that two of his three best movies are post 1990. Best movies The Jerk, Bowfinger, and LA Story.

JLo actually has been in a good movie. 'Out of Sight.' I remember watching that with my wife and we both said, man, she is going to have a terrific career. Then it was a crapfest of bad movies after that.

Tim Allen plays the same bad character in always every single movie.

I will also say once again that 'Click' is truly a bad film. Pirates 2 was terrible as well. I loved the first one, the second one was just like it without the humor, plot or fun of the original.

2) Akeelah and the Bee

Good family film. A little formulaic, but enjoyable.

3) The Devil Wears Prada

Another Chick Flick. Sad to see how much Streep has aged. She was hot once upon a time.

4) Monster House

Pretty decent animated flick. But not for little kids. Too intense.
Meryl Streep was never hot. Ever.

Great actress yes, but not hot. You have a very bizarre taste of what is hot.
