Yup.

As long as it is good, anyway. Rivalry smack is only effective if one side finds it hilarious and the other painful.

Attendance smack? Not good smack.

Since the inception of the mightly pirate ship....the yewts permanently lost any right to bring up the whole...."Who would waste his time doing something like that" kind of smack.

That Pirate Ship idea deserves to be mocked mercilessly until the end of time.

The idea itself alone was humorously embarassing....but to follow through with it. lol.....Pure comedy gold.

1- The pirate ship was never intended to be smack. If cougar fans had done this and Ute fans had mocked them the cougars would ask "Why do you care so much about our team?" And then make several "little brother syndrome" comments.

2- Cougars obviously will never understand anything like the pirate ship because they don't know how to tailgate.

3- In the great scheme of tailgating things, the Pirate ship is pretty bland. Visit a town with an NFL team and you'll see some stuff that puts the Pirate Ship to shame.

Anybody associated with the Pirate ship has lost their right to accuse anybody of not knowing how to tailgate.

Sure, the Pirate ship would seem normal-- if you live in Oakland or Tampa Bay.

Please tell me the Pirate ship idea came from Utes that wanted to get into BYU and become Zoobs, but couldn't get in. Please don't tell me this came from regular college football fans.

I've heard a ton of Pirate ship references but never caught the original story. Can someone summarize?

Somewhere along the line some Ute fans got this clever idea that they would take a little trailer (the kind you might tow a few four wheelers on), some plywood, and a lot of red paint and make a pirate ship that they could tow to tailgate parties. It had coolers and stuff built in. It was pretty dumb. The pirate thing kind of took on a life of its own.

It's the kind of thing only the geeky fanatics of a sports board could dream up. Think "Bernard for Heisman" but with more spill over into the real world.

The pirate ship makes sense especially if you're a Raiders or Buccaneers fan so you're #3 is a moot point, because that is something that someone would OBVIOUSLY associate with those NFL teams...so DUHH!!!!

Say what you will, but the Pirate has EARNED the right to be mocked and deservedly so. What's even funnier is when they got KWhit to "Christen" the Pirate Ship at a Famous Dave's during his radio show....and well....he couldn't break the bottle over it. That's damn funny. The entire thing from beginning to end is like "The Office" version of Tailgating/Ute "Fan"dom.

Next thing you know a picture of Utah's offensive linemen wearing coconut bras will pop up on the internet.
